Rich plum purple Murano glass, handmade in Venice containing delicate white gold leaf and hand set in polished sterling silver, gives this circular pendant necklace its gorgeous jewel-like appearance. The round glass pendant measures approximately 20mm in diameter and hangs from a smooth sterling silver snake chain, available in 16-inch or 18-inch lengths.

The glass is individually handmade by skilled artisans on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy, where traditional glassmaking skills have been passed down through generations. Fine layers of white gold leaf are incorporated into the glass.  Each circle of glass is then carefully hand set into its sterling silver frame. Tiny bubbles, flecks and subtle variations are lovely characteristics of genuine handmade Venetian glass, giving every necklace its own individual character.

The circular design takes inspiration from the coloured stained-glass windows at Antoni Gaudí's Casa Batlló in Barcelona. Their organic shapes, reminiscent of jellyfish and ammonites, combine decoration with the practical purpose of allowing light into the building. The rich purple glass and reflective white gold leaf give this necklace a similar interplay of colour and light.

Plum is a wonderfully sumptuous shade, with rich berry tones of damson, blackberry, mulberry and deep aubergine purple. There's an almost amethyst-like quality to the glass, particularly where the light catches the white gold leaf. The polished silver frame provides a lovely contrast to the depth of colour.
